Hi folks. First let me say that discovering this board has been a real goldmine. My thanks and compliments to Tantal and Martin for their encyclopedic knowlege of the Kalashnikov system.
Now for my question: I have been having an "Krinkov" type short barreled rifle made, and am currently waiting for the Treasury to approve my form-4. I took a look at the work that my manufacturer has done on my AK, and it looks great. I do have a couple of questions about the buttstock, however.
For starters, my smith has designed a clip at the front of the receiver to keep the triangular buttstock in place when it is folded. It works great, but I'm sure this isn't standard issue. My smith says that without it, the buttstock wouldn't lock into a folded postition, but just swivelled free, unless it was fully extended. What is going on here?
Secondly, the buttstock is not fully seated into the receiver. The insert sticks out about 1/4", and wont go in any further because the hinge sits do far forward that it prevents proper seating. Is it advisable to trim off a part of the left side of the receiver to make room for the hinge, or just leave it as is? Know of any magical fixes that I am overlooking?
