Hey hey. One of the Kalashnikov variants I own is a pretty odd piece, representative of a curious time period. It's a Polytech Industries AKS that had its folding spike bayonet assy ground off, and a thumbhole stock was slapped on. The "AKS 7.62" marking was somewhat roughly milled out, and "MAK-90" was scribed in. There's another bit of scribing-- " K.B.I. Inc Alexandria, PA" just to the left of the Poly Technologies markings on the left side of the reciever. Listings suggest that there aren't any post-ban Polytechs, as Norinco became the only ChiCom game in town (Polytechs have two factory markings that no Norinco has ever been tagged with). As well, KBI wasn't an importer of ChiCom stuff. So what's the deal with this? Is it a pre-ban that KBI somehow got ahold of in transit or on the docks and didn't have the sack to sell in the proper config, or maybe some Polytech pre-bans that KBI picked up for a song that they then had to cut up to get them in, post-'89? Either way, it's an interesting piece, but I'd like to be able to get rid of the roughly-ground ex-bayo assy. The Polytech AKS that it lives next to looks like its twin, separated at birth, that got adopted by a wealthy family and had all the proper training, by comparison. |
