Mark....Questions about SAIGA again ...ctxt
 Author: JT February 26, 1999 at 22:34:52

    Hi Mark,

"hound dog" mentioned in his post that he has to create a
stamp to generate the oval dimples on the SAIGA receiver
because they do

not have it. However, according to the picture I saw on this page
(see above image), it should have the dimples already. Which is
correct? Since I do not have a picture of the SAIGA receiver sold

by Kalashnikov-USA, I cannot confirmed one way or the
other. Can you help?

Another questions is on the SAIGA magazine well. The 7.62
magazine well is wider than the 5.45. If you use a SAIGA 7.62

receiver to build a 5.45 Krinkov, will the extra space on
each side of the magzine well affect the firmness of the
magazine fitting?

To make it work, I had to replace the trigger guard with a regular AK guard, cut a slot for the pistol grip, and will have to turn the barrel down in a lathe to fit the Saiga trunnion. I will also have to modify the trunnion or barrel to get it to feed properly because of the differences in the front of the Saiga vs. regular AK mags. Hope this answers you questions.

> No, the hole is already there, just covered over my the Saiga trigger guard. The hole is the same as any other single arm trigger. The only modification to the reciever itself is a slot for the grip screw base to slide through.

> If you mean the bulge at the bottom, yes it does have it. By the way, I was able to get a correct Bulgarian AK-74 trigger assembly from K-Var.
> One other thing, after careful examination of the Saiga trunnion and other regular AK trunnions, I think the easiest way to fix the feed problem is by adding a shim over the bottom of the trunnion from the barrel to just over the front of the mag. The Saiga trunnion has been milled out larger than an AK trunnion and this causes the cartridge to drop slightly and the tip hits the barrel rim instead of going into the chamber. The shim would raise the tip just enought to feed properly.
