    oopppsss...

hit the enter key too early...

oh well...

the website you want to see that can answer your questions
about an FFL is:
http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/nlc/index.htm

basically a dealer license is $200 for three years and
involves a lot of responsibilities as far as record
keeping, legalities, etc.

a curios and relics license is $30 for three years and is
much more laid back, but you can only purchase curios and
relics directly. guns that aren't on the list you buy just
like any citizen (paperwork, etc.).

to get a dealer (or pawnbroker) license you will need to
fill out ATF form 7 (5310.12).

to get a curios and relics license you will need to fill
out ATF form 7 CR (5310.16)

you will have to call ATF in GA at (404) 679-5040. you'll
get an answering machine and they will call you back in
three to four business days and you can ask to have the
form sent to you.

When you send in the form you must send in the money. It
will be 60 to 90 days before you hear if you receive your
license in the mail or are notified you have not been
approved and your money is refunded.

You will also have to notify your local chief law
enforcement officer and comply with all city, county and
state laws regarding businesses for a dealer FFL (that
means tax numbers, business license etc., aside from the
gun laws) and the same for a C&R, but you don't need to
comply with business codes.

a list of curio and relic eligible firearms can be found
at: http://www.atf.treas.gov/

If you are approved a book comes with your license that lists most of the eligible guns. You should note that it does not cover ANY modern military weapons, but does include guns like the SKS, Tokarevs, older Mausers, CZ52s, etc. AKs are not C&R eligible.

dealing with ATF is almost as much fun as dealing with
IRS.......
