The final production AK-74M, which is the base model for all of the AK-100 series, is the full length rifle in 5.45mm that has all the features of the AK-100 rifles. It actually was the first model to have these features, which include the plastic folding buttstock and the integral optics side plate, standard on all examples. The AK-100 series are basically the family of rifles and carbines that were developed in multi-calibres from the AK-100. The AK-74M pictured in the "versions" section of this web site is not the production model adopted by the Russian Army. It is an experimental long barrel version that was a prototype. AK-74M as adopted has the standard barrel assembly and muzzle brake, although the brake is improved over previous models. It is the same brake as the AK-100 rifles use. All AK-100 rifles and carbines are equiped with the side mounted universal scope plate.
