You say that the AK47 5.56x45 is a SAR2. The AK47 the I have has 5.56x45 SAR3 etched into the metal. Just wondering if you made a typo or the info on the side of my weapon is incorrect. thanks > I believe that the AK47 (7.62 x 39) is superior under 200 yards. I have used both the AK47 (SAR1) and AK74 5.45 X 39 / .223 Rem (SAR3), but not the AK74 5.56 x 45 (SAR2). It seems like the Romanian SAR family (imported by Century Arms in VT) is most available these days for fairly reasonable prices (@$400), but you will want to change the trigger group. The group that Century Arms installs is a cheap casting; it gives mucho trigger slap, and on the SAR-3 the hammer gets chewed up fast (along with the bolt & firing pin) cause it's so cheap and the .223 round generates so much gas (there's even an extra blow-by vent). Red Star Arms makes nice drop-in groups to replace the cheap components, making a fun gun into a serious varmint rifle. They run about $80, but the improvement is stellar. Good luck and enjoy! |
