I think Radagast makes a good point. The problem is, and I wouldn't call it a problem really, is that we don't have "tribes" of terrorist type people coming over the border causing problems (yet) like we are experiencing all over the Caucusus' and the "Stans". So we don't really have the need for that incredible reliability of the AK cuz were aren't having to take up arms and go humping all over the desert to protect our families. In that case, give me the AK. What happens is you've got guys going to the range to shoot and they like to place bottles and junk downrange to see if they can hit it or targets of course, and they will gravitate to accuracy when they get tired of shooting the crap out of cowpies. No pun intended. I've seen it and heard it enough. Americans are accuracy freaks. Look at the Marines for cryin' out loud. I'm ex-Army too so I can say that. The best of both worlds is something like the MAR-15 but I think it's called the AK-74. That's my baby. Also, by the by, I read a report the other day that there has been tremendous amounts of negative feedback from all the SpecOps community to the "Brass" about the 5.56's poor performance in Afghanistan and there is apparently going to be a serious review about changing caliber and weapon. Lets hope. The report talked of how SpecOps troops were "converting to something with more stopping power" (M-14's maybe?-probably) because it was taking 5-6 hits to put the Taliban guys down and the Marines at Camp Rhino were having to clean their weapons a minimum of three times a day to keep them functioning and that wasn't necessarily during combat either. Maybe we're finally going see an AK actioned type weapon in .260 Remington or 7mm-08 or something. There's food for thought.
