What advantage(s) does the 5.45 cartridge have over the 5.56? As near as I can figure it has marginally worse ballistics, but it is typically loaded with a more effective bullet. That bullet however was primarily designed to get around the Geneva convention and presumably 5.56 cartridges could be loaded similarly. As a private citizen not bound by the Geneva convention I can use bullets that are far more effective than military ammunition, or is the 5.45 bullet really as good as expanding commercial bullets?
I've heard the recoil is less, but the recoil from a 5.56
is minimal anyway.
