SVD scope upgrade,wooden handguards and match ammo?

I have had a Tiger with the military stock for several
years now. Decided to take it out and shoot it some lately.
It still has the 4x PSO and I'd really like something a
little more in line with my US scopes. What is the general
opinion on the other Rusky scopes for sale. The 8x or 9x?
Also, I've often thought of changing the front handguards
to the wood slotted types but I've been told that the SVD
guards don't fit. Are they close enough to be modified to
fit. I am a luthier and do quite a lot of precision wood
work. What's the deal? Also, what's the latest on match
type ammo for them? (S&B?) Thanks for any feedback.
