Romak 3 handguards - blackening on inside ?

	I finally got my handguard off (thanks Dave - the ring just got loose & last time I cleaned, it slid past the notch) and found that the inside was fairly black near where it fits into the receiver. Not exactly charred, it looked more like powder residue. Has anyone else seen this ? I'm wondering if the wood is going to slowly degenerate. Tx, StG44
