cleaning w/corrosive - Hoppe's #9 OK ?

sorry to dredge up the corrosive question again, but - I
found some traces which looked like chemical residue in the
gas port near the vent holes and at the entrance to the gas
tube, _after_ doing

hot soapy water after shooting. So, I

hauled out the Hoppe's #9, let the areas soak, wiped clean,
and lo and behold, no more residue.

Does this mean that a normal cleaning with Hoppe's promptly
after shooting corrosive is as good as hot soapy ? The
water method is frankly a messy pain in the ass, and my
girlfriend is being remarkably tolerant of my abuse of the
kitchen sink ;)
