I will shortly get my Romak-3 & have been reading all the excellent content here. I've gone through the posts about 54R ammo, & have looked in Shotgun News & online. I find: S&B 180gr non-corr $6-7/20 online, >$10 gunstore (I assume this is not yet the match-grade stuff) Norma: >$1 per round... Lots of admittedly corrosive surplus Fewer mentions of allegedly non-corrosive Russian mid-80's production Can someone in the know lay out: 1. what bullet (particularly weight) was the Romak/FPK designed for ? (haven't found that yet). 2. is the Russian mid-80's non-corrosive truly non-corrosive (a web retailer stated all surplus has some corrosives) 3. should I shy away from anything like coated cases, steel case, etc. for the Romak in particular ? (or just not buy real cheap surplus ?) 4. corrosive is new to me - if I end up buying it, I hear a bath of ammonia in soapy water cleans up the action - true ? 5. Ideally, I'd like to find some non- corrosive stuff that's not as expensive as the S&B - it'd be real cool to stay under $0.20 a round. I don't care so much about match grade, I would like to stay away from the +200gr stuff since that's apparently way above the intended size (true ? - I'm looking to do long- range target shooting). Does anything like this exist ? Please recommend what you think is the best fit. Thanks a bunch! StG44 |
