The development of the MAG 95 started in 1993. The MAG designation is derived from the chief designer's, Marian Gryszkiewicz's name. In January of 1994 two prototypes (serial no. A00001 and A00002) were completed for tested. The pistol was offered to the Polish military as a candidate for replacement of the obsolete and NATO incompatible P-83 pistol but lost the competition to the WIST-94 pistol. One of the reasons was the rather hefty weight of the all-steel MAG. In response the design team developed an alloy-framed version called MAG 98 (earlier called MAG 96).

MAG 95 is a pretty conventional high-capacity, double-action 9mm Parabellum pistol. It operates on the short recoil, locked breech principle. The rear or the barrel ends in a squared-off block that locks the barrel to the slide's enlarged ejection port. The cam on the bottom of the breech locks and unlocks the barrel. The frame is made of either steel (MAG 95) or light alloy (MAG 98). Slides in both versions are made of steel. The trigger mechanism is conventional double-action and there is an internal firing pin safety that releases the firing pin only when the trigger is fully pulled. The external controls consist of a takedown lever, a slide release, decocking levers on either sides and a reversible magazine release. MAG is fed from a 15 round magazine with extended 20 rounds magazines offered as an option. The standard sights are fixed. A laser sight module that attaches to the front of the trigger guard is also available. The competition model (MAG 98c) is equipped with fully adjustable rear sights. The standard finish is oxide on the frame and slide and chromed barrel but the pistol can be ordered in dull or bright chrome finish or in duo-tone. Grips are made of black checkered plastic with Z.M. Lucznik's logo. The frame has grooved front strap and the front of the trigger guard is checkered for better grip. The slide has both front and rear serrations (the prototype showed in some publications has only rear serrations).

MAG 95/98 is currently offered by Lucznik but since it lost the contest for the new Polish army pistol its future is uncertain.
